Candle Mats

Historically, candle mats protected the finish of fine furniture from candle wax drips. Did you know that in the 1700-1800’s most tables were finished with shellac? Wax bonds and melts into the finish making it almost impossible to remove a candle wax drip, hence the necessity of a candle mat. Many of the finishes used today are less susceptible to this problem. Today, our candle mats do the same thing while giving your home a distinctive accent under lamps, votives, or other items on tables and dressers.

Candle Mat Kits

Our candle mat kits are in the style of penny rugs from the early 1800’s. These measure 83⁄4″ diameter and are two layers thick with 7⁄8″ and 11⁄2″ penny appliqués.

Everything you need to start is right in the package including all cut wool felt, floss, a needle and instructions.

Pansy Mat Kit

Our pansy mat kit is an 83⁄4″ diameter mat, two layers thick, with pansies made from heart-shaped petals. The warm brown color of the mat is like a freshly-turned garden bed. The pansies are three dimensional.
